Empty Bowls 2026: Back at Last (and Sweeter Than Ever)

There are moments when a space feels especially alive, when the energy is palpable; conversations overlap in a lively hum, and you can feel something meaningful unfolding in real time. This year’s Empty Bowls event was exactly that kind of moment.

From the moment doors opened, The Depot’s program space filled with a steady stream of community members — some familiar faces we hadn’t seen in far too long, and others joining us for the very first time. Over the course of the afternoon, more than 250 people passed through the space, and 221 handmade bowls were sold and found new homes, each one directly supporting The Depot’s programs.

Again and again, we heard the same reflections:

“I’ve missed this!”

“The energy here is incredible.”

“It feels so good to be back together.”

There was something deeply moving about gathering again in this way — sharing a simple meal and taking part in an act of collective care. Empty Bowls has always been about more than bowls of soup; it’s about solidarity. It’s about coming together as a community to acknowledge food insecurity while also celebrating connection, creativity, and generosity.

This year, that spirit felt especially strong. Maybe it was the long-awaited return of the event. Maybe it was the mix of old and new faces. Or maybe it was simply the reminder that when we come together with intention, warmth follows naturally.

To everyone who joined us, whether you came to eat, volunteer, reconnect, or support, thank you. You helped make the space feel full in every sense of the word.

We’re already looking forward to the next one.
