Boîte à Lunch

An after-school program for youth that builds cooking skills, nutrition knowledge and healthy eating habits!

Les Ateliers Boîte à Lunch is a project of The Depot Community Food Centre initiated by the Table Jeunesse NDG in 2003 after identifying a serious food security issue within the neighbourhood: kids were coming to school without food or with inadequate or inappropriate lunches and snacks. The Boîte à Lunch edible education programs have been running uninterrupted, ever since. They include after-school cooking and nutrition workshops for children and teens, educational and interactive activities offered in school classrooms, summer camps, and community centres, and a series of parent-child nutrition workshops.

In response to the success the after-school workshops had in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce neighbourhood and the rise in demand for food-based educational services, the project entered an expansion phase in 2016. The after-school primary and teen workshops are now run in six different neighbourhoods of the city – Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Centre-Sud, Saint-Michel, Pointe-Saint-Charles, Côte-des-Neiges, and Plateau Mont-Royal – with a local community organization offering Boîte à Lunch workshops in their neighbourhoods (see below).

Boîte à Lunch is dedicated to changing the lives of young people for the better, helping them to build healthy relationships with food and reinforce the food security of their families.
